Most property owners and homeowners only hire a landscape contractor every 7 to 10 years and many don’t know what questions to ask to evaluate the contractor.

The following information is provided to assist property owners and homeowner’s in choosing a landscape contractor. This is not an exhaustive list and all of the questions may not apply to your situation.

We will be happy to provide you with a complete copy of our answers and the support at our first meeting.

Here are 3 areas we recommend you consider in evaluation every landscaping contractor you talk to:
1.    The Reputation and Business Stability of the Landscape Contractor
2.    Their Experience and Methodology
3.    Their Service Before, During and After Your Project

For each area simply ask the questions and ask the landscape contractor to provide the written evidence to support their answers.

Reputation and Business Stability of the Landscaping Company

Are you registered with the State of New Jersey as a Home Improvement Contractor and will you provide us with your registration number?
Will you supply a copy of your current insurance certificate?
Have you ever filed bankruptcy for this or any other company in which you held an ownership interest?
Which professional landscape organizations do you belong to?
Have you ever held a position of leadership in any professional organization in the landscape industry?
Can you provide me with references?

Experience and Methodology

Will you provide a detailed breakdown of the service you are providing?
What is the experience of the supervisor who will be on our project?
How much of a deposit do you require?

Service Before, During and After the Project

Will you provide me your warranty in writing?
Have you ever repaired a project that was out of warranty?
What is your company phone policy?
How often do you meet with homeowner to review job progress?

We hope these questions give you the information you need to make the best choice when it comes to hiring, evaluating and working with a professional landscape contractor.
